Well, Happy Monday and Happy December. 18 Days left in existence, y’all. In light of yesterday’s bummer news that New York rap trio Das Racist have decided to break up, we’re dedicating today’s Happy Monday to them. Das Racist put together two stellar mixtapes and an album before pulling the plug. Personally they were one of my favorite rap groups in the past few years, as they breathed some creativity, wit, ingenuity and refreshing lyrical play in what had felt like a bit stale of a genre. Das Racist hypeman Dapwell talked to Spin in more detail about the break-up, stating that they had another album and a farewell tour planned, but that it had become all about the money and they weren’t good at that. Anyhow, don’t take my word for it. Just listen to “Rainbows in the Dark” below as we celebrate what once was. Members Kool AD and Heems are both still making music btw.
