Yesterday, Subpop released Washed Out’s second full length album Paracosm. Ernest Greene noted that his sophomore effort would contain much more instrumentation and a more “human” feel. Single “It All Feels Right” was an excellent example, pairing an arguably more accessible angle with the trademark Washed Out *chillwave* vibes. Additionally, it marked new grounds for the Southern, moving past the fleeting micro-genre of *chillwave*. Ernest stated that he didn’t mind that label, as it probably helped him stand out from a number of other bedroom producers. But with Paracosm, we can see that Washed Out has emerged past those 2009/2010 labels and continued onward.
Next Saturday, on August 24, Washed Out will perform at Monterey’s inaugural First City Festival. The set goes down on the Cypress Stage at 8:30 PM. If you’re in the Bay Area, you should do yourself a favor and look into First City. It’s very reasonably priced and features a packed line-up. Tickets are available here.
