As far as alt hip hop acts go, it’s a fair consideration to view MC Sean Daley (Slug) and DJ Anthony Davis (Ant) as godfathers of the genre. Together as Minneapolis-based Atmosphere, their catalog approaches the legendary breadth of better known hip-hop artists such as E-40 and Too $hort, with 7 studio albums, 5 EP’s, and 13 releases under the Sad Clown/Bad Dub heading.
All this fails to even begin to address the mini-dynasty of rappers and hip-hop groups signed to the duo’s Rhymesayers music label including such names as Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, MF Doom, and others.
Fortunately for Seattle hip-hop fans (no strangers themselves to the indie rap genre), Atmosphere is on the road with friends. On September 15th, fans will have the chance to see Slug and Ant in concert, accompanied by Rhymesayers artists I Self Divine and early openers, Carnage. Elsewhere around the Northwest, Atmosphere will make stops in Spokane (9/12), Boise (9/13-14), Portland (9/16), and Ashland (9/17).
