Pukkelpop 2011

In a recent string of stage collapsing at summer festivals (including the extremely tragic Indiana State Fair collapse), a stage at Belgium’s Pukkelpop Festival collapsed. Five people were killed and 75 are reportedly injured after Thursday’s incident in Hasselt, Belgium. In the wake of the tragedy, festival promoters have cancelled the remainder of the festival, issuing the following statement:

Pukkelpop is in deep mourning. We truly sympathise with the families and friends of the victims. Words are not enough. We have struggled with the decision to continue the festival. Therefore we have decided to cancel Pukkelpop 2011. What has happened is very exceptional and could not have been predicted. We are deeply moved by all the spontaneous support the festival goers and the organisation have received.

Acts scheduled to perform in the remained of the festival included Eminem, Lykke Li, Wu Lyf, Odd Future, Cults, Antlers, Crystal Castles and more (full line-up here). Our condolences go out to all those affected by the event.
