Sasquatch Festival 2011 has come and gone, offering as many cherished memories as friendly Canadiens (note: the Canucks Stanley Cup berth might have increased said friendliness). The 10th edition of the festival introduced a new fourth day. Additionally, all tickets doubled as camping passes. Concerning the cries of continued corporatization, changes were not monumental. Especially so when paired against the news that Coachella announced an expansion to two weekends. However, let’s hope vendors removing caps from water bottles to prevent refills is not a sign of what’s to come.
In other developments, while Coachella’s live YouTube stream may have set a high bar for festivals, NPR provided excellent coverage of the festival. You can find dozens of bands’ entire sets captured for stream here. And we’ve included direct links to specific bands sets below. No festival is perfect; tightened bag searches, hour-long waits and some ugly entrance conflicts were unfortunate. Yet on the bright side, this year’s rendition held the largest palette of bands yet (105 acts), including a somewhat NW bias (Death Cab, Modest Mouse, Head & the Heart, Mad Rad, Macklemore, The Globes, etc). Weather was relatively rain-free and comfortably ranged from 65-75 degrees. Plus, the world’s largest shower was on site. Musical highlights included Sleigh Bells, Beach House, the Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Chromeo and Foster the People. And most appropriately, Sasquatch’s tenth anniversary celebration was held in the middle of the Flaming Lips set, which escalated into Wayne Coyne throwing birthday cake into the crowd.
