Much has been said, written, debated, ogled over and celebrated since Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion hit the intrawebs in December of 2008. The critically and fan acclaimed album delivered AnCo to the forefront of the blogosphere, hipster year end lists’ and the indie musicground as a whole. Since then, we’ve been treated with the psychedelic film OddSac, the Fall Be Kind EP, Guggenheim Museum art performances and AnCo member Panda Bear’s slowly leaking solo tracks.
However, just a few weeks ago, AnCo’s Avey Tare (Aka David Portner) announced his own solo record. And while Hipster Runoff’s Carles stirred up a hypothetical AnCo rift and Tare discussed AnCo’s status with Pitchfork, we at AoT are thrilled to see another stellar experimental psychedelic art album from the AnCo camp. And if anyone argues that Panda Bear was the foundation of the group, Down There goes to show there’s a Lennon for every McCartney.
