Kithkin prepares to release their Takers & Leavers EP

Seattle University has cranked out some very talented musicians recently, most notably dream-pop duo Lemolo. Ironically enough, “Lemolo” stems from the language of Chinook Jargon, which happens to be the former-nomer of another excellent SU band–Kithkin. Recently, my own band was planning to play a 206 date with Kithkin. Unfortunately, the date did not pan out. Fortunately, I was introduced to the young band’s refreshing brand of high-energy, rowdy, primal jungle-rock.

Kithkin has built a name for itself with a healthy combination of area house shows as well as opening gigs for the likes of Phantogram, the Thermals, Young the Giant and AWOLNation. They’re set to release their debut EP Takers & Leavers on Jan 10, 2012 (presumably to be available via Kithkin’s Bandcamp). Musically, Kithkin makes a heavy nod to Animal Collective (more “Winter’s Love” and “Fireworks” than MPP). Yet they’ve forged a surprisingly unique niche wielding unabashed, youthful energy and unrestrained dynamism. Fans of Yeasayer and Morning Teleportation take note.

Download their single “Goliath” and listen to “Ampersand” below.
