San Francisco’s Cathedrals have been hard at work perfecting the follow-up to their self-titled 2014 debut EP. As we wait for official word on a release date and more details for that album, Cathedrals shared a new track in the meantime.
Cathedrals “Howling” is a rework of RY X and Frank Wiedemann’s beautiful original. Cathedrals’ version certainly does justice to the track. “Howling” introduces any new listeners to the band’s skillful use of minimalism, subtlety and acute timing. Brodie Jenkins’ vocals are given plenty of room to soar. And Johnny Hwin’s production is on point here, suggesting their new album will be an aural treat. Hwin shared the following regarding “Howling”:
“Howling” was the first song we arranged with our touring bandmates Mitchell Wilcox (drums) and Jonathan Hererra (bass) for playing out live. The experience of playing shows together over the past year changed the way we heard our music, and we wanted to share some of that energy with you in this new recording.
