Block Party returned to the streets of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood this weekend. The three-day event, which has been running since 1997, included an electric mix of hip-hop, electronic, indie rock and otherwise hipster-approved music. As Block Party continues to expand, a massive crowd of approximately 25,000 showed up for this weekends affair. That 25k was largely composed of the seemingly incompatible mix between Cap Hill music addicted, uber-trenders and thoroughly inebriated frat lords.
Headlining acts for the weekend included Seattle’s own Head and the Heart, Ghostland Observatory, Yuck, Les Savy Fav, TV on the Radio, Battles, Cave Singers and Explosions in the Sky. While the internationally rounded bill certainly provided an audiophile’s dream, the story of the weekend was the weather. In a summer where the UW reports there have only been 78 actual minutes of “Summer” (80 degree+ weather), Block Party provided three days of beautifully sunny, idyllic Northwestern summer weather for concert goers. Check out photos and day-by-day summaries below.
