From the sweat enriched air of the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, Oregon, Cursive reigned down a flood of catchy indie/posthardcore rock songs for all those in attendance. A diverse crowd of all ages descended upon the ballroom to enjoy the band’s unique brand of rock as they played their second to last show supporting Minus the Bear. Cursive brought a mean set, full of fun and energetic songs that consisted of unpredictable stops and dynamic breakdowns before jumping back into drive mode. Songs such as “Warmer Warmer” and “Drunkin Birds” off their latest album I Am Gemini force you to nod your head and tap your foot to the steady and satisfying beats.
The crowd sang along for older songs such as “From the Hips” and “Dorothy at Forty”, proving the band still has a loyal following even in these times where EDM seems to be wearing the musical crown. It is good to see bands such as Cursive sticking to their rock roots and bringing their live energy night in and night out while on tour. You can catch Cursive in Seattle tonight with Minus the Bear and Girl in a Coma and then in Spokane with locals Drag Like Pull and Terrible Buttons tomorrow. The band then heads on to Montana for two more shows before taking a quick break from touring.
