waterstrider "white light"

Regulars to the site will likely be familiar with Oakland’s Waterstrider. In 2014, we shared the five-piece’s single “Redwood” just before their North American tour with Gardens & Villa last spring. Additionally, you may have heard the solo effort of Waterstrider’s Nate Salman or his vocal contributions to Les Sins’ “Why” (Toro y Moi).

As Waterstrider prepares to release their full-length album Nowhere Now later this year, they’ve shared the first single from the album. “White Light” demonstrates the small touches Waterstrider have been mastering. Their nimble polyrhythms, patiently peppered-in instrumentation and Salman’s agile vocals (falsetto and otherwise) sew together an excellent initial taste of the album.

Stream Waterstrider “White Light” and find lyrics below. Watch for the track as an AA single with “Calliope” on January 29. Waterstrider plays SF’s The Independent with Cathedrals on February 28, however the show is sold out.

“White Light”

Lauded for your bright white light

Pulled it from inside; wide-eyed

You’ll find all the answers

Fearless as a young lion

Give me a tall tree to die on

You’ll find all the answers

Open your mind

Frightened wings in a dusk of dust

Fountain statues grown from lust

You’ll find all the answers

Open your mind
