As a Washington state native, it’s been a decade-long hobby of mine to watch which home turf bands rise from basements to Sasquatch stages. In the hype-wave, mega circus, blog era, this cycle has evolved on BALCO grade steroids. You could debate the pros and cons of said cycle at length. But watching bands like Allen Stone, Kithkin, Pickwick and the like make the leap brings a deep sense of pride to the Evergreen state.

Considering Seattle’s SISTERS (Andrew Vait and Emily Westman) recorded their very first 8-track song in a basement just one year ago, it’s time to start considering them in the company above. When “Back 2 U” and “Buzzards” arrived from one of our writers last fall, the songs’ accessibility, gratifying hooks, and pop sensibilities reeled me in. Since the release of their five song Diamonds of Gold EP, they’ve rocked Neumo’s with the Seattle Rock Orchestra (which they also play in) and were chosen to play Sasquatch this May. With their current trajectory, one would be wise to catch them in an intimate venue now.

SISTERS play our Apes on Tape showcase at 4pm on Saturday March 28. Full showcase details here.
