Despite going back almost 25 years, Enigma is not the best known electronic group around. In fact, their music is not really electronic and neither is it a “group” as much as a project. Formed in Germany by a Michael Cretu (a Romanian) and making all recordings in Spain with a panoply of European collaborators, Enigma is clearly a worldly undertaking.

One of seven studio albums, 2006’s A Posteriori includes the hauntingly delicious track “Sitting On the Moon”. Released just a year the first dark days of auto-tune’s relentless onslaught, spearheaded by T-Pain’s “I’m Sprung”, “Sitting On the Moon” is a fine example of how perfectly the much-reviled effect can be employed, especially when combined with a trance-y rhythm and lyrics that lend themselves to poetry. This is music that lets you kick back, shut your eyes, and drift away.
