As Tame Impala closes out it current tour with a final string of West Coast dates, a handful of folks in Oakland were treated to a rare, intimate show with the Aussie psyche rock group. Given that Tame Impala played to thousands of people just two nights before, across the bay at San Francisco's Bill Graham Auditorium with Flaming Lips for Halloween, their hardly-publicized "secret show" at the 300 max capacity Uptown in Oakland caught many by surprise. Count me in those ranks. Having seen them play for thousands at Outside Lands, the Fillmore and Fox Theater, I was utterly blown away to stand four feet away as they shredded through a full ten song set (setlist above) which included jams and extended versions.
I'm still coming down from the experience of watching Tame Impala produce their groovy, sonic whirlwind right in front of me... They just wrapped up the current tour at Portland's Crystal Ballroom last night. We'll keep you posted on any new recordings or tour dates in the future.
