The Entrance of Sasquatch! Music Festival 2011 on Friday

Those able to score Friday off we’re able to get an early start to Sasquatch this year, as the festival added a fourth day. While the lineup was relatively limited compared to the ensuing three days, it certainly still offered its treats. As well as an excuse for attendees to throw one hell of an opening rager back in the campground.

Against Me!

Death From Above 1979

If you didn’t catch the news, Death From Above 1979’s first reunion show in Austin caused a riot. While things had a bit of time to cool down since SXSW in March, DFA’s set was easily one of the most rowdy of the weekend. From the pit, the second after the dance-punk duo began it was a zoo. From Sebastien Grainger’s white jump suit to the live renditions of You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine to the setting sun on the Gorge, DFA’s reunion appearance certainly met even the loftiest exceptions.

Foo Fighters

The dominate narrative surrounding the Foo Fighters headlining performance (or newest record for that matter) has been the participation of Krist Novaselic, Butch Vig and Pat Smear. Essentially, the new Foo is the closest thing we can get to Nirvana sans Kurt. While that story may have overshadowed the music itself, the band ripped through a two hour set which offered Foo fans all the hits. While lesser fans of Foo’s radio rock would’ve preferred to see Dave Grohl behind the kit, it was an excellent opening closer for the festival.
