Perhapsy "All My Soul Swallowed"

Oakland musician Derek Barber is no stranger to our site, as we’ve featured his work with Bells Atlas and Astronauts Etc before. In addition to writing, recording and gigging with both of those bands, Barber maintains a side-project called Perhapsy. What originally began as an instrumental outlet in 2010 has evolved into a guitar driven, experimental pop venture.

On March 3rd, Barber will release Perhapsy’s new Me Tie Dough-ty Walker album. He’s shared the lead single “All My Soul Swallowed”, which highlights his guitar chops here. “All My Soul Swallowed” should resonate with late 80’s/early 90’s college rock fans. Dinosuar Jr, Sonic Youth and Guided by Voices aren’t distant sign posts. While Barber’s nuanced textures with Bells Atlas and stuck-in-your-brain-for-months riffs with Astronauts are wonderful, Perhapsy offers another side of his musicianship as he takes the reins on all writing duties.
