FYF Fest 2016 Preview Playlist

By: Fiona Hannigan

This weekend marks the 13th FYF (“Fuck Yeah Fest”) Fest, and it’s third year in LA’s Exposition Park. It didn’t seem like they could top last year’s lineup (even with a disappointing Frank Ocean cancellation, Kanye stepped up the game and set the bar high)–but 2016 is nothing to laugh about. This year’s FYF Fest is the only chance on the West Coast to see Kendrick Lamar. Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, and Explosions in the Sky continue tours after their varied breaks. Tame Impala and Grace Jones both have headlining slots. Blood Orange, Vince Staples, Hot Chip, Beach House, and Grimes are among the highlights, not to mention Young Thug, Kelela, Julia Holter, Ty Segall & the Muggers, Kamaiyah, and a dozen more artists.

The two-day festival got its start hosting local artists in Echo Park to about 2500 people. 2014’s numbers were estimated at 40,000 a day. While its size, location, and some of its original spirit has changed over the years, FYF Fest consistently presents a stellar, solid lineup and variety of acts in a more manageable and accessible setting than Coachella or even Outside Lands.

As of this post, all weekend and Saturday single passes are sold out. You can still a snag single day pass for Sunday, or you might try a third-party market. Whether you’re waiting eagerly in anticipation or you need to ease the pain of missing out, you can check out our FYF 2016 playlist below. Plus, we’ll be in Los Angeles covering the festival, so look out for our recap and photos soon.
