Summer music in the PNW kicks off with Sasquatch Festival: the dusty, dirty, dervish of a festival held over Memorial Day weekend and it ends with Bumbershoot, nestled in at the base of the Space Needle this coming Labor Day weekend.
The three-day festival kicks off Saturday, boasting appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Crystal Castles, Charles Bradley, and headlined by Heart.
The sophomore day offers attendees the chance to catch Fun., Teagan and Sara, Matt and Kim, as well as Bellingham’s own Death Cab for Cutie playing their 2003 album, Transatlanticism. As if the Death Cab buzz wasn’t sufficient, festival organizers have promised a “to be announced” appearance during the headlining slot at the EDM stage at Experience Music Project.
On Monday, Bassnectar, MGMT, and Alt-J among others round things out.
Throughout, the festival features acts that run the gamut of entertainment from music to dance to theater to art to discussions on the Words and Ideas Stage where titles include “Why board games? Why zombies? Why now?” and “The Marijuana Chronicles”.
Our daily picks? Charles Bradley & and his Extraordinaires have a sound as gritty as the frontman’s background. Northwest rockers, Kithkin, kick things off on Sunday and of course, we can’t mention Kithkin without mentioning Ivan & Alyosha, the soon-to-be tour partners of Needtobreathe, who will take the Main Stage at 7:30 on Monday.
